DigDeep Right to Water Project

Delivering first-time or renewed access to clean water and safe sanitation for underserved Indigenous families on the Navajo Nation, empowering communities to improve health, dignity, and economic opportunity.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

No poverty
Clean water and sanitation

The objective

To provide water and sanitation solutions for up to 29direct beneficiaries in 2026, with indirect impact reaching over 2,949residents, through mainline connections, Home Water Systems, sanitation upgrades, and support services.

The issue

30% of Navajo Nation residents lack access to clean, running water or basic plumbing. This water access gap leads to health risks, financial burdens, and undermines cultural continuity. Native American households are 19 times more likely than white households to lack plumbing.

The partner: DigDeep

DigDeep is a national nonprofit and the only organisation of its kind in the U.S., with a decade of experience delivering water and sanitation solutions to over 10,000 clients. Their approach centres on community leadership, local hiring, and data-driven impact.

The project

  • Installation of mainline water connections and Home Water Systems for 15 beneficiaries
  • Sanitation improvements (bathroom upgrades, outhouses) for 14 beneficiaries
  • All solutions are community-led, with local hiring and ongoing homeowner education
  • Robust monitoring and evaluation through DigDeep Labs and the Water platform
“Clean, running water and sanitary plumbing is something everyone should have access to, but 30% of the residents on the Navajo Nation are living without this basic need being met. DigDeep is an indigenous-led and staffed nonprofit that provides bill-pay assistance, and sanitation/septic installation in homes, ensuring that families can drink, cook, and bathe safely.”
