Equipping women in prostitution with jobs skills training and employment assistance in Spain

Reduce hunger and poverty, and improve livelihoods

UK & Europe

The issue:

Sex workers, particularly cisgender and LGTBIQ+ women in prostitution face economic and social exclusion, as well as other disadvantages. Most sex workers in Blanes and Gerona are migrants, and many are without a fixed address. They experience social exclusion in areas such as work, training, social-health and citizenship.

The project:

Fundació El Molí d’en Puigvert has been working since 2002 to help vulnerable people find reputable employment.

Awarded a grant of £82,335.70 over two years, this project will provide comprehensive support, including job skills training and employment assistance to 50 women in prostitution. Their approach aims to address various needs such as language competency, academic accreditation, professional skills training, work experience, access to employment and training resources and services, as well as obtaining and maintaining a residence and work permit. The project, which aims to support these women in transitioning to normalised full-time employment, is facilitated by a social worker, a psychologist, a job seeker and a trainer.
